Ms McHale in Washington

Hi blog followers,

I've arrived in Washington after a long flight from  Dublin to London and then on to Washington DC.  (You should find a map and see how far I've had to fly.)  We arrived at our very beautiful hotel, the JW Mariott last night.  It's right beside the White House, so we went out for a walk to have a look at how lovely it is at night.  It's hard to see in the photo, but it's a very impressive building.  I felt like I was in a movie.

We have started this morning with our meetings and presentations.  There are hundreds of people here from around the world, all with different skills and backgrounds, but all involved in education.  You can imagine how many ideas are here to make classrooms exciting and interesting for kids around the world.
Be sure to check back again later.  I'll keep you all updated on the exciting things that happen during the week.

Hi again Ms. Mc Hale! 5th class here again. Well, we had a look at the atlases this morning to see where you have travelled to. We thought it was funny you had to go backwards to London in order to go forwards to Washington DC. It's a very long journey. Ms. Phelan googled the distance between Dublin and London - it's 642.60 km and gave it to us so we could make a good estimate of the distance between London and Washington.
First we rounded the distance between Dublin and London down to 600km. We drew a line between Dublin and London on the map and judged how many times that line could fit between London and Washington. We estimated we could fit 13 in, so our estimate between London and Washington was 13 x 600 = 7,800 km.
As it worked out we were actaully a little bit off - Ms. Phelan googled again for us and the distance is 5915km, or when rounded 6000km. Still not a bad estimate. Hope you're having a great time.
